Palestinian leadership seeks full UN membership

Palestinian leadership decided to seek United Nations full recognition and membership of a Palestinian state next September within 1967 borders based on the international legitimate decisions concerning Palestine, according to Secretary General of the PLO Executive Committee, Yasser Abed- Rabbo.

He said, after a meeting headed by President Mahmoud Abbas in the presidential headquarters in Ramallah, that this decision is for the sake of a just peace process; which involves announcing an independent Palestinian state that lives in harmony with its neighbors and applying all international charters and resolutions.
The leadership asked all countries to support recognizing a Palestinian state, which helps the peace process and doesn’t contradict it. It explained that this step follows President Obama’s speech, Arab peace initiative, European Union statements and the International Quartet committee decisions”
