Women appointed members of the Saudi Shura Council
Today, the Saudi King appointed - by virtue of a Royal
Decree - 30 women as members of the Shura Council.
However:
- Membership of the
Shura Council runs through appointment, and not elections;
- The Council has no
real powers and is a mere advisory body, consisting of 150 members;
- A special area for
sitting (separate from men) will be allocated to women members at the Council;
- A special entrance
and exit (separate from men) will be allocated to women members.
